This elegant Austrian functional fabric has a long tradition: even in the early Middle Ages, the farmers appreciated its weather resistance and breathability in field work. Of humble beginnings, this yarn made of sheep's wool has long ago established as one of the most functional and worn fabrics being used in costumes in the eastern Alpine region as well as in Lapland. Today, loden is made of pure merino wool to achieve an even finer texture.
The production process from natural wool to the final product consists of 40 elaborate steps. The fulling process is particularly vital: the wet fabric is kneaded to make it mat and compact. The result is an astonishingly thin and light fabric whose extraordinary density warms, protects against wind and is water-repellent. The pure natural fibre, in turn, is breathable, moisturising and self-cleaning. With loden, weather can be as harsh as it gets.
AQVAROSSA sources loden from a family-owned company in Austria that complies with the highest quality standards. The merino wool used is Woolmark certified.
